Sculpture Update

At last I've got around to posting how I got on with the sculpture of my Mii (see previous post). It's been great fun working on her but I'm not sure whether to leave her eyes as they are or fill them and paint them on like I plan to paint the eyebrows. I'm still thinking about how to do her glasses but the next step is the baking. I hope she survives.

A Return to Blogging with a Sculpture Post

I haven't blogged for ages but it's something I'd like to start up again so I thought I'd begin with a post on sculpting.

In February this year I attended the Animex Festival and did the one-day sculpture workshop with Nick Roberson of Mackinnon & Saunders and who work on Tim Burtons 'Corpse Bride'. It was a great session where I learnt loads about technique and gained my first experience of producing a sculpt.

Here are the results, the reference was from an unused character from the 'Corpse Bride' and is plasticine on a wire armature.

So this inspired me to do a sculpt of my Mii as I am so fond of it (and one of my boyfriend's Mii to go next to it). Here are my planning sketches:

Here's my armature made in the way Nick taught us:

This time, instaed of plasticine, I'm using Super Sculpey and which was inspired by Peter Konig's fantastic tutorial on Concept Art.Org and because I want the sculptures to be a bit more durable. Here is my first pass at laying on the sculpey (about three-hours work so I guess I need to speed up):

I'll post more as I progress.

Mii

I got a Nintendo Wii for Christmas! The Wiimote is a great piece of technology and even non-gamers seem to like playing. Here is a picture of my Mii.
